It might have been a ‘Cinderella’ story for the winner Of Miss Intercontinental 2021, Cinderella Obenita of Philippines, but Seychelles very own Kelly-Mary Anette had her fairy tale ending too.

Africa: Miss Intercontinental Seychelles – Kelly Mary Anette , Europe: Miss Intercontinental United Kingdom – Romy Simpkins, Winner – Miss Intercontinental 2021: Cinderella Faye Obenita (Philippines), North America: Miss Intercontinental Mexico – Paulina Uceda, South America: Miss Intercontinental Colombia – Maria Paula Castillo
“Pageantry is not about wearing make-up, high heels and being ‘granzar’ (a show-off). It is more about your personality.”
Miss Seychelles 2020 Kelly-Mary Anette is the Miss Intercontinental Africa 2021 and the third runner-up in the Miss Intercontinental pageant. The 49th edition of Miss Intercontinental was held on the 29th of October at Hotel Sunrise Diamond Beach Resort in Sharm El Sheik, Egypt, where Cinderella Faye Obenita of the Philippines was crowned as Miss Intercontinental 2021. The pageant attracted 70 delegates from around the world.
Kelly-Mary recalled being so surprised when her name was called for the round of top 20 and then top 5. “when I was called in the Top 5, I was shocked because there were bigger countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Canada, UK and they always excel in pageants. So for me, Seychelles being a very small island, I was very shocked but at the same time very joyful, and I am still trying to absorb the fact that it happened.”

Kelly-Mary noted that the victory is not just for her – “this is not for me, it is for the country which is bigger than me. I am so proud of accomplishing this milestone for my little nation. There are so many people out there who did not know about Seychelles, and during the 23 days of competition, they got to know about our country, and for me, this is everything.”
I was so happy to be able to stand with all the major countries. What made me come so far was my one-to-one interview. I was able to tell the story of my life and share what I was doing as an economist in my job, mainly in the blue economy and my foundation where I am helping the semi-orphans. The experience was hectic, but I did it for Seychelles.”
And her message to other young women who want to get into pageantry- “Pageantry is not about wearing make-up, high heels and being ‘granzar‘ (a show-off). It is more about your personality.”
Miss Seychelles 2020 was also the Media’s favourite. Cosmocreole congratulates Kelly Mary, Miss intercontinental Africa, for her achievement, and we wish her well with all her projects.
