“My passion was there to keep driving me forward with purpose and perseverance.” Dr Gylian Mein
Gylian Mein’s name will be inscribed in Seychelles history as the first Seychellois nurse practitioner awarded one of the highest academic accolades in the nursing profession. Gylian was awarded a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree with distinction by the Chamberlain University of Illinois from the United States of America (USA). Chamberlain University has a 130-year history preparing nursing graduates and healthcare professionals from all over the world through their campus-based and online courses.

Gylian, the Chief Nursing Officer at the Seychelles Hospital, completed her studies in three years. She described the last phase of her studies as a challenge — “my final year in the programme was tough and unforgiving, especially when Covid-19 struck. Covid-19 took precedence over my studies, but I had to make time each day to complete and submit my weekly assignments, ensure that I did not miss any weekly class, organise virtual presentations, video conferencing with the professors, peer review on discussion boards, and so much more.” Gylian said her passion, commitment, and loyalty to her profession during this incredible academic journey kept her going. She noted that she could not have done it all without her family’s unending love and support.
Gylian, who already holds a degree in nursing and a Masters in Midwifery and Women’s Health from Lancashire University, will celebrate 40 years next year since joining the nursing profession in1982.
Cosmocreole congratulates Dr Gylian Mein on her achievement.
