Finding Your Signature Scent

29 July 2020 · In: Beauty, Beauty, Skin & Beauty

There is a saying that goes “The course of true love never did run smooth.” Well, the journey to finding a signature scent could be as daunting as finding true love.

How do you find your perfect soulmate in perfume? There is a saying that goes “The course of true love never did run smooth.” meaning people in love often have to overcome difficulties in order to be with each other; well, the journey to finding a signature scent could be as daunting as finding ‘the only one’ which is coincidentally my signature scent.

I am a lover of fragrance and boy, I have had so many encounters, some didn’t even make it past a second date but many got a second chance and I got to fall in love with some of them; hence, I proudly owned a little collection of exquisite perfumes but I have my preference, who doesn’t?

Fragrance is a personal choice but the most important questions to ask yourself when you are choosing a perfume are: What is the message I want to send out to the world? What do I want to smell of? Does it make me feel empowered? Does it make me feel good?

Don’t buy a perfume with the hope of falling deeply in love with it just because you’ve been told that it smells great. Your perfume should be a sensory enhancement of your personality, so you should only wear it if you feel comfortable with the scent- it’s no different from clothes; if you hate it, you don’t wear it.

  • Elie Saab Le Parfum

Be faithful to fragrance, never let the marketing of a particular perfume persuade you to buy it. To find your true scent, you need to be patient. Take the time to look around and be sure to find a scent of true quality and individuality that screams ‘YOU’.

Always smell the perfume on paper first to give the alcohol a chance to evaporate, spray a few options onto a card and take them home- that’s the best way to get up close and personal with any potential scent suitors. Get to ‘know’ them first. Then another day go back and spray your preference onto your skin and give it time to develop. Then, and only then, will you know whether you’ve found your match,

Remember, a signature scent is a statement about you. There are no hard and fast rules about which scent you will like, but if the smell is right, you will definitely know, so be open-minded.

  • Si by Giorgio Armani

Finally, trust your instinct; a scent is personal to you (I couldn’t emphasise this any more!) and only you can decide what is best for you. I personally believe that perfume is all about making you feel exquisite and special, so only you can pick the right scent to make you feel this way. I rarely buy perfume as a gift unless I really know what kind of scent someone wears.

Remember love at first sniff can be as hard as love at first sight – be patient and you will find the one.
